Kirkwood & the luxury sneakers

The last shoe designer to have yielded to the sirens of street style is Nicholas Kirkwood, the famous English designer who chose the latest Paris Fashion Week FW17 to unveil his first model of sneakers. It is a pair of “high-top” sneakers all in leather that are developed only in black, white or pink blush. Of course, in order to differentiate from the others, they have the designer’s signature with the pearl which has become his hallmark of these last years.

Tod’s and the gommino

The name Tod’s recalls luxury, the Italianness and another element: the gommino. This typical element of the loafer’s sole has become the emblem of Della Valle Company. Everything started in a small village of the Marche Region, in the middle of Italy, where Diego Della Valle, CEO of the brand, has grown up in the little of his grand-father Filippo, an artisan who used to draw and produce shoes.

Level: welcome to paradise!

What if you were told that there is a 30 thousand square meters place entirely dedicated to shoes, would you think it a fairy tale? Not at all, I can assure you this place is 100 % real and it is located inside the world’s largest shopping mall, the Dubai Mall, in the financial capital of the United Arabic Emirates. I’m talking about the Level Shoe District, created in 2012 from the Chalhoub Group, the luxury group of the Middle East,

The shoes revolution

Wearing 3.9 inch heels all day long to take public transports, to go to work, pick up children from school, to go shopping at the supermarket and then to the inauguration’s cocktail of your favourite brand’s new flagship store, this isn’t obvious, at all. Well, I’ve always thought that we women are such heroines! American women, who are very pragmatic, they are perfectly aware of it:

The success of Gianvito Rossi

When you grow up in the world of shoes and your father is called Sergio Rossi, you certainly take advantage of it. That said, your fate is maybe written, but the family heritage is not enough. Ten years ago, how many people were ready to bet that Sergio Rossi’s son would have found his own luxury shoes’ brand and would have succeeded to expanding in more than 200 stores in the world?

Caovilla made in Venice

Perhaps not everyone knows that René Caovilla is one of the oldest luxury shoes companies in Italy. deEverything started in 1934 when Edoardo Caovilla, Luigi Voltan’s apprentice, the first shoemaker in the zone Riviera del Brenta, near to Venice, had the idea to create luxury shoes by combining his expertise in the field with his passion for couture. At the beginning, there were only his wife, in charge of embroidering shoes by hand and four craftsmen in a small room.

Ferragamo: from IT to US

Before Salvatore Ferragamo, shoes for women were mostly items to walk, rather ugly and not necessarily comfortable. After Salvatore Ferragamo, they became “objects of desire”.  Let’s focus on the Italian designer who began his career on the golden world of American Cinema. Salvatore Ferragamo, born in Avellino in 1898, had a dream: he wanted to become a shoemaker.
