Blumarine’s 40 candles

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Italian brand Blumarine, the publishing house Rizzoli has just published “Blumarine: Anna Molinari”. To the book that tells the story of the designer Anna Molinari, echoes the special project “Blumarine Stories” which has planned the realisation of six movies, matching the six chapters of the volume. But before diving into the backstage of these short-movies, let’s go back to the main stages of the Italian company.

Valentino Resort 18

On Tuesday, 23rd May, it was Valentino’s turn to present its Cruise collection. The Artistic Director Pier Paolo Piccioli has chosen New York and its very trendy district Soho for the location of its fashion show. On the catwalk, the freestyle in its romantic version is the theme. When interviewed on the backstage, the designer has summed up the spirit of the Fashion show as the connexion between “the sport and the romance, the Pre-Columbian myths and the hip-hop energy”.

F like Fendi

If you’re romantic and you see life through rose-coloured glasses, this summer the Fendi collection will know how to impress you. The genius of Karl Lagerfeld, at the head of the Artistic Direction of the roman brand for more than fifty years, showed us a Spring Summer collection 2017 which is inspired by the French rococo spirit with a hint of modernity. Everything is on the details: the large bows and the ribbons embellish the dresses with fluid silhouettes and daring transparencies as well as they decorate the handbags and the pouches.

New Cavalli A.D.

After a few days of waiting where names like the one of the Italian designer Stefano Pilati were circulating, it’s the English designer Paul Surridge who was at the end nominated as Artistic Director of the Italian brand Roberto Cavalli. Paul Surridge had already been at the head of an Italian company, as Creative Director of Z by Zegna, after experiences at Burberry and Jil Sander.

Kirkwood & the luxury sneakers

The last shoe designer to have yielded to the sirens of street style is Nicholas Kirkwood, the famous English designer who chose the latest Paris Fashion Week FW17 to unveil his first model of sneakers. It is a pair of “high-top” sneakers all in leather that are developed only in black, white or pink blush. Of course, in order to differentiate from the others, they have the designer’s signature with the pearl which has become his hallmark of these last years.

Prada Resort 18

On Sunday, 7th may, Prada unveiled its cruise collection during the fashion show at the Osservatorio of the Fondazione Prada, located at the first floor of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, famous gallery in the centre of Milan. It is the first time that the Italian luxury company dedicates an entire Fashion Show to its Cruise collection. When interviewed at the end of the runway, the designer Miuccia Prada wanted to specify that “it’s rather a “no cruise” because words such as “cruise” or “resort” seem to me adjectives for marginal fashion shows”.

The Hyères Festival

The 32nd Edition of Hyères Festival of Fashion and Photography has just ended. Here’s a summary of the winners of the contest. The 29-year-old Swiss designer Vanessa Schindler’s technique performance was rewarded with the grand prix du jury Première Vision. The designer has succeeded in integrating the fabric into a soft plastic, by inventing a new vocabulary of textile.
