Happy birthday Furla! 1927-2017: this year the Italian company celebrates its 90th anniversary and, for the occasion, during the latest Milan Fashion Week, the Creative Director Fabio Fusi presented the new capsule collection dedicated to the most iconic model of the brand, the Metropolis bag that will be available on the stores from next May. Nine versions of the it-bag, one for each decade, to cross the 90 years of the brand’s history, from the beginning of the 20th Century until the down of the new millennium. Each model will be declined in five different colours and in nine different and interchangeable flaps, inspired to the musical element, the real red wire of the collection. The nine decades follow each other to the beat of the music: from the Charleston of the Twenties with their Art Deco to the today’s techno, characterised by the hi-tech and the digitalisation, going through the Rock’n’Roll of the Fifties.

For an easier understanding of the Creative Director’s vision, let’s go briefly back to the history of this brand that has become today a must in Fashion and leather goods world.

In 1927, Aldo and Margherita Furlanetto have the idea a family company in Bologna based on the accessories for women. Fifty years later, when the second generation of Furlanetto, Carlo, Paolo and Giovanna, joined the company, the first collection of handbags and accessories was born. In the space of two decades, in the Nineties, the network of the stores Furla has already conquered the international market, by expanding its presence not only in Europe, but also in Asia, particularly in Japan, Hong-Kong and in China. To celebrate its 80th anniversary, Furla inaugurates the Furla Foundation and opened its e-shop. In 2015 the company moves itself into the new Palazzo Furla in the heart of Milan, the Italian capital of Fashion.

These are the steps of a brand which has managed to combine the craftsmanship with the contemporary and minimalist design and the taste for colours, all mixed in a judicious balance between tradition and innovation, functionality and elegance, characteristics of a DNA 100% Italian.
