If you’re romantic and you see life through rose-coloured glasses, this summer the Fendi collection will know how to impress you. The genius of Karl Lagerfeld, at the head of the Artistic Direction of the roman brand for more than fifty years, showed us a Spring Summer collection 2017 which is inspired by the French rococo spirit with a hint of modernity. Everything is on the details: the large bows and the ribbons embellish the dresses with fluid silhouettes and daring transparencies as well as they decorate the handbags and the pouches. But before diving into the iconic articles of this season, here is the history of the Italian brand in a few dates.

Founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo fendi in Rome, the brand Fendi is born at the beginning as a fur workshop. Soon the founder Adele Fendi develops an interest for the leathers used to produce the horse saddles and decides to produce handbags. In the Thirties and Forties, the quality of these leather goods is so high that Fendi’s reputation starts to spread itself out of Italy. In 1965, Adele and Edoardo’s daughters, Paola, Carla, Anna, Franca and Alda, hence at the head of the family company, mark the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between the brand and the designer Karl Lagerfeld. In order to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this “marriage”, Fendi, which is today part of LVMH group, organised the first “haute fourrure” fashion show in Paris in July, 2015.

The SS17 collection, fully declined in pastel hues that go from the blush to the aquamarine, deserves particular attention for its handbags, starting from the novelty of this season: the Kan I, a slingbag decorated with studs which is a perfect mix of baroque femininity highlighted by the bows, the ribbons and the scalloped edges and of modernity. Not to mention the other core models of the brand: from the Peekaboo in its classic sizes but especially in its most fun versions, mini and micro, to the iconic Baguette, created in 1997 by the A.D. of the accessories Silvia Venturini Fendi, in its micro size until the most recent backpacks, they are all embellished by the embroideries and this leit-motif of the rococo opulence represented by the gourmands decorations of the mini cakes and the floral decorations.

So, did you choose your it-bag for this summer?
